Our Story

Society House Books & Café began with a simple idea: every community deserves a beautiful place to gather.

Georgia natives Amanda and James Davis spent much of James’ medical training living in different parts of the United States. Along the way, they developed a lasting appreciation for the places where communities gather, a perspective that was shaped both by those years and by their love of travel. With three children of their own, Amanda and James wanted to invest in the future of the community they call home. That vision became Society House Books & Café.

Housed in one of downtown Valdosta’s historic buildings, Society House brings together a thoughtfully curated independent bookstore, a welcoming café, and beautiful event spaces. Whether you’re discovering your next favorite book, meeting a friend, or celebrating a special occasion, our hope is that you’ll feel right at home.

More than anything, Society House was created to be a place where stories are shared, friendships begin, and community grows.

We’re so glad you’re here.

About Society House

More than a bookstore. More than a cafe.

Society House was created to bring something special to downtown Valdosta: a destination where people can gather naturally throughout the day and for life’s memorable occasions.

On the ground floor, guests can browse a curated collection of books and gifts, enjoy coffee and pastries, or gather in The Reading Room for private dinners, showers, receptions, book clubs, & community events.

The second floor is home to The 1885 Room, a private meeting and luncheon space designed for presentations, professional gatherings, small celebrations, & intimate events.

Above it all, The Rooftop Terrace offers an open-air setting unlike anything else in Valdosta with a distinctive space for cocktail parties, engagement celebrations, birthdays, networking events, and private social occasions.
